On Longing Assignment

"The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale."- Susan Stewart While walking the shoreline, I noticed how vast the ocean is compared to myself. It really blows my mind at how small humans are to earth's natural elements. I chose this image for this sentence because without experiencing in person how massive the ocean really is compared to my body I wouldn't of gained an understanding of how small humans really are in the world. "Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience."- Susan Stewart I chose this image for this sentence because to me when I graduated community college my diploma held such a high/capacity for me at the time. The Skin Has Eyes

The Skin Has Eyes " Touch, by clarifying and adding to the shorthand of the eyes, teaches us that we live in a three-dimensional world. Touch allows us to find our way in the world in the darkness or in other circumstances where we cant fully use our other senses."- Diane Ackerman Statement: For this piece I wanted to portray a literal hand having eyes. It represents that we see everything around us with touch first. How when we are first born we feel through out hands rather than our other sense, vision. The black around the eyes on the hand represent that hand are our vision guide to this world.

Pain

" We spend our lives trying to avoid it, and, from one point of view, what we call "happiness" may be just the absence of pain. Yet it is difficult to define pain, which may be dull, shooting, throbbing, imaginary, or referred. We have many pains that surge from within as cramps and aches. And we also talk about emotional distress as pain. Pains are often combined, the emotional with the physical, and the physical with the physical." - Diane Ackerman Statement: I wanted my piece to encompass the aspect of how deep pain is felt throughout the soul. How raw and unfiltered it feels. The grabbing of the heart symbolizes the physical aspects of pain by the hand clenching around the heart, and the outlined bleeding heart symbolizes the emotional level of pain. Emotionally as if your heart is aching and bleeding. As well as physically with the pain radiating throughout your whole being.
